The book starts near the end of an interstellar war between once-competing space empires, Earth and Sparta. The Spartans have pushed the Earthers all the way back to the home planet and launch a final assault to wipe out humanity once and for all/5(9).

I read this book many years ago. It is a beautiful example of an extended siege of a planet. The author brilliantly makes the alien invaders really work for it. Earth loses one inch at a time. While there is no hope for victory, or even survival, the home team does not waver.

"The Siege of Earth: The Ember War Saga Book 7," is an prime example of how an eBook author needlessly extends a series storyline that once had merit, to a point where only family, friends, book agents, drinking buddies, and sycophants can find enjoyment/5.

Called "elegantly, starkly beautiful" by The New York Times Book Review, The Siege is Helen Dunmore's masterpiece. Her canvas is monumental -- the Nazis' winter siege on Leningrad that killed six hundred thousand -- but her focus is heartrendingly intimate.4/5.

Siege was a newsletter/zine published during the 's by National Socialist James Mason. The book is more or less a page compilation of those writings in a beautifully put together hardback book, or at least the Black Sun published version that I have is/5.

Emperor Thoriz Pelagius Septim III (3E –), also known as Pelagius the Mad and the Mad Emperor, was the Jarl of Solitude, and the twelfth Emperor of Tamriel after the death of his father Magnus Septim. Later, he married a Dunmer woman named Katariah I, who succeeded him to Affiliation: Empire of Tamriel. The galaxy is in flames. The Emperor’s glorious vision for humanity lies in ruins.

His favoured son, Horus, has turned from service to the Imperium and embraced Chaos. His armies, the mighty and redoubtable Space Marines, are locked in a brutal civil war.

Some remain loyal to the Emperor, whilst others have sided with the Warmaster. The Enemy at the Gate: Habsburgs, Ottomans and the Battle for Europe has a comprehensive introduction and background to the central event covered in the book, the Ottoman Siege of Vienna in The book covers the siege itself in great detail without being by:   Now, an immense alien fleet is on the way to Earth to end the human race.

During the meeting Doom expresses his displeasure with Norman's actions against his ally Namor. Doom accuses Osborn of attempting. The siege of Malta in makes for a hair-raising read even in non-fiction form.

But this novel really was disappointing. It takes nearly half of the book for the hero - the skinny 16 year old Englishman Nicholas Ingoldsby - to arrive at Malta and the siege to begin.4/5.

The Ember War, book 1: The Earth is doomed. Humanity has a chance. In the near future, an alien probe arrives on Earth with a pivotal mission: to determine if humanity has what it takes to survive the impending invasion by a merciless armada.
